Project Description
As part of a high profile Airport development I worked with Arup facades to generate a modular roof concept. This followed the fairly classic product design approach of developing a brief and a set of user needs and functional requirements, leading to a set of concepts that were developed and refined within the team. The client is very product focused, moreso than others in the building industry and appreciated the use of design process to form the basis for clear decision making.
The concepts shown here were developed to deal with thermal and acoustic issues, daylighting and maintenance, importantly, treating the maintenance crew as a user of the system or product. The design was intended to create the right balance between an economical exterior weathered roof and an interior treatment filled with possibilities to create a light and visually interesting experience for airport users below.
